What is Item 'Empowering'?

Empowering an item raises its level and increases its power. This action costs gold coins and elemental shards of the weapon’s elemental affinity type. You can empower your items three times before you run out of charges, but you may recharge the item by using royal tokens, thus enabling you to empower the item three more times and so on.
